Seventies Hairstyles

The seventies hairstyles (70s Hairstyles) seems to be making another loud comeback in recent years. More and more people (both men and women) are looking for the best types of hair styles which they can set the trend for. Among the most obvious and most popular hairstyle comeback is perhaps the old mullet hairdo. For a quick reference, the 70’s era is actually considered a remarkable phase in the history of hairstyles. It is in this year that the revolutionary blow drier has been invented and as a result, many salons and women have easily realized the beauty of the said fashion accessory. This is also the reason why the 70’s is characterized by big poofy hair—this is actually a result of the blow drier revolution.

Express Yourself through the Seventies Hairstyles

As soon as the seventies kicked in, the hairstyles women sported have become more free and expressive. In the older decades, women used to simply have the classic hairstyles thus sporting bobs or simply letting them neatly loose. However, the seventies pushed for more creativity. Some even dared sport the avante guarde look. Some also challenge the notion of the usual curls and some also went as far as being bold enough to try loud hair colors instead of the usual neutral ones as highlights. In the end, glamour and self expression is what mattered the most and gone were the days when straight sleek and classic was the only pinnacle of beauty.

This self expression and burst of creativity is what fuels the seventies look to make a great come back these days. Because of its fun appeal, both men and women usually sport the look when clubbing or partying.

Vintage Hairstyles

Vintage hairstyles are those classic hairstyles of the past. These beautiful hairstyles are done without using modern hairstyling tools like hair dryers or curling irons. To create these intimidating vintage hairstyles pins, clips, fingers and hairspray are used.

There are several wonderful vintage hairstyles. To name a few, pin curls, rag curls, finger waves, do-rags, rag curlers are some of those elegant hairstyles.

Shall we see how to create pin curls? To create pin curls we need the following:

  • Comb
  • Clips & bobby pins
  • Hairspray
  • Pick
  • Flowers
  • Vintage hair accessories

Vintage Hairstyles - Tips & Tricks

Creating Pin Curls
Hair should be clean and slightly damp. Separate hair into several narrow sections. Take one section; twirl it with your index finger into a tight curl. Secure the curl tightly on the head with clips and pins. Make the curls in rows and secure them with pins. Just change the direction of the curl for each row. Let the hair dry for hours or leave it for overnight. Then remove the pins and clips and arrange the curls, as you like with pick. Finally use hairspray and add flowers or other vintage accessories as you wish.

Finger Waves
Lets see how to make finger waves. Part the damp hair into a wide section and comb it down. Move the fingers down the section and create a wave. Secure the waves with pins. Create waves at every two-finger width. After the hair dries remove the pins and clips. Finally finish it off with little curls at the nape of the neck.

Rag Curls
Using clean rags, cut 5 inches long, 1-inch wide rags. Part the hair into 1-inch wide sections and comb them down. Place a rag around a hair section just an inch above the scalp. Wrap the hair around this rag spirally. Tie up the ends of the rags. Do this for all hair sections and allow it to dry. Then remove the rags. You will get beautiful looking cute curls.

Rolls
When you think of vintage hairstyles you think of the rolls. To do rolls you need your hair to be at least shoulder-length. Doing rolls is a bit time consuming. But the end result is elegant and classic.

Rag Curlers
You want curls but not pins? Don’t want to sleep with all those clips and pins? Then rag curlers are for you. Curly hair gets its wild lock tamed with rag curlers. And straight hair gets those wonderful looking curls all over the head.

Vintage hairstyles give an aura of that past era and present that elegant and classic look.

Japanese Hairstyles

Japanese hairstyles are not just for those with Asian descendents. These hairstyles are for anyone who wants to try something a little different. The typical Japanese hairstyles tend to be short for the very young, long for the young women, short for the men and the older persons. These styles tend to be either conservative or edgy, with not a lot of middle ground.

Japanese hairstyles feature either bright colors and flashy extremes, or the more solid and stable black hair color. This also reflects the trend for the styles to be either edgy or conservative. What is important to note, that in most cases, the conservative or edgy styles can be turned into each other at any moment. This allows one to go from one scene to the next with no major transitional moments.

Japanese hairstyles have been known to be popular in the United States and United Kingdom, however, as time has gone on, the trend is tending to be opposite with Japan looking to the west for inspiration.  This makes for very interesting hairstyles and choices, as everyone is dependent upon each other for influence.

Another thing that should be noted of the Japanese hairstyles is the hair that these styles are intended for. Japanese people tend to have thick, heavy hair. This means that the hairstyle that looks good on them may not work for those with thinner weight hair. Some of these hairstyles may appear thin or balding when used in thin hair. Be sure to get the expert opinion of a hairdresser before attempting any hairstyle.  Waiting six weeks to change hairstyles can be a very long wait.
